Board Certified lawyers have experience in a select field of law as well as special competence in that area of law within the Texas legal community. In Texas, there are only 7,300 Board Certified attorneys among 100,000.
The State Bar of Texas only allows lawyers with a Board Certification to represent themselves publicly as a specialist in a selected field of law. It also gives a higher recognition and public commitment to excellence in your area of law.
The process to get the certification is voluntary. You can only get the certification after a practice of five years and a minimum of three years of experience in the specialty area.
Board Certification is a continuous process that requires involvement in the specific area. It requires annual professional refreshment through TBLS approved legal education course.
